The idea behind this dance project is to portray a variety of traditional dances using the most famous Dublin landmarks as a background. I intend to picture the cultural richness and mixture that Dublin offers by welcoming cultures beyond its borders. The traditionalism of the dances and the modernity of the city blend in a harmonious contrast, allowing foreign cultures to feel free to represent their being in a land that welcomed them with open arms.

What story do you want to share through this project?

The idea behind this dance project is to portray a variety of traditional dances whilst using the most famous Dublin landmarks as a background. I intend to picture the cultural richness and mixture that Dublin offers by welcoming cultures across the globe. The core roots of the dance styles and the modernity of the city blend in a harmonious contrast, allowing foreign cultures to feel free to represent their being in a land that welcomed them with open arms.

Why did you remain determined, spending 4 years of your life to this project?

Photography is like wine. It becomes better with age. This project took 4 years of my life, and what an incredible journey it was. I was determined to meet the right people. Professional dancers. Photographing them at the right time. It’s mesmerizing reflecting how I have grown as a photographer from the first photo to the last. In the meantime, I participated in contests, photos were exhibited in galleries, and cherry on top, I got my distinction LIPF. I am now able to play best with light and composition. All these learnings enabled me to translate what bloomed in my mind onto the actual capturing in the picture itself.

What made you decide which dancers to capture in the moment?

To be honest, I’ve found the secret stalker inside of me ;). I’ve contacted dancing schools in Dublin, browsed through my good old friend Instagram and thoroughly enjoyed theater performances after which I would ambush them backstage and share the concept. If I truly believed they would add uniqueness and authentic beauty to the project. The result? 28 professional dancers of whom everyone immediately jumped on the opportunity – we were in it together, straight away. And c’est voila!

What is the purpose of the exhibition?

Inspire, inspire, and inspire. My goal is to show you, everyone, the embezzling beauty of Dublin from a different angle by reflecting various expressions through dance. Taking people out of their busy lives, to pause, and stand still. “The whole point of taking pictures is so that you don’t have to explain things with words.”
